Copenhagen provides a pivotal gateway to the Baltic Sea. The city attracts tourists who appreciate its charm and cultural identity. The largest city in Scandinavia, Copenhagen has the reputation as being visitor-friendly and attracts a good deal of tourism.

The Tivoli Gardens, in the heart of Copenhagen is a great spot for relaxation with Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, one of the most pivotal art museums in Scandinavia, directly behind. Strolling around Nyhavn (New Harbour) will take you past numerous bars and restaurants. Christianshavn is an idyllic place, with cobbled streets and buildings dating from the 18th century. Here you also can find many restaurants, bars and cafés which line the harbour.

From Copenhagen take a drive to the beaches at North Zealand. The most popular include Hornbæk, Gilleleje, Tisvildeleje and Liseleje. Alternatively, visit one of Denmark's finest castles a drive of approximately 25 miles northwest to Frederiksborg Slot, at Hillerød. Carry on past Christania's old harbour and you can see the 'Little Mermaid' statue positioned on the waterfront.

Begin your city tour at the spacious Rådhuspladsen (main square), which links the newer part of Copenhagen to the older pedestrianised part. A stroll along Strøget brings you to the popular attraction, the Round Tower. On the tiny island of Slotsholmen, you can find Christiansborg Palace. For the last eight centuries, the palace has been Denmark's centre of political power. Situated under the palace, you can visit the remains of Bishop Absalon's castle. The Bishop founded Copenhagen, and the ruins of the castle date back to 1167.
